The Push The Pull is an ongoing series of works, featuring tealight candles within the seascapes and rockpools of Burnett Heads and Coonarr beach. The precarious nature of this pairing is central to the concept, which in the creation of these works I have found multiple interpretations of.
The mangroves and water are a scene from Coonarr Creek, just south of Bundaberg. I have a lot of good memories at Coonarr beach and creek, so it was really enjoyable to revisit this place, and to capture the crystalline sea-glass green waters, with a storm coming in. It was the perfect setting for the tealight candles bobbing in the shelter of the mangrove banks.
Painted in watercolours and gouache on a 55cm diameter round of rough Khadi paper.
